Windows Agent - SolarWinds N-central Installation

Follow this article to install the Blackpoint SNAP-Defense agent to your customer network using your SolarWinds N-central tool. We've broken down the installation into two main steps:

  1. Downloading the SNAP Agent
  2. Deploying the agent using N-central

Downloading the SNAP Agent

  1. In the Blackpoint Portal, navigate to Customers in the left-hand menu.
  2. In the Customer List section, find the customer you want to deploy the agent to. Click the Manage button. You will be redirected to the Customer Details page.
  3. Provided that a service has been added to this customer, you will see a Download SNAP Agent button. Click to download the .exe file. Likewise, you can copy the URL to your clipboard if you prefer to use the hosted agent link.

Deploying the agent using N-central

  1. Log into your instance of SolarWinds N-central.
  2. In the main screen, navigate to Configuration > Scheduled Tasks > Add/Delete.
  3. In the Scheduled Tasks screen, click AddPush Third-Party Software Task.
  4. Type a descriptive task name in the Push Third-Party Software Task screen.
  5. Click the Task Handler tab. Select from one of the following:
    • Use Agent where available to specify that local agents can be used to install the distribution package wherever they are available (otherwise the best available probe will be used), or
    • Use Best Available probe through which the distribution package will be installed.
  6. Click the Details tab. In the Credentials section, select the credentials to be used to push third-party software from one of the following:
    • Use Device Credentials to use existing credentials used to access the device, or
    • Custom Credentials to specify a username and password to be used for this task.
  7. In the Software to Deploy section of the Details tab:
    1. Use the Location drop-down menu to select the location of the third-party software:
      • From Software Repository to distribute software from the N-central repository.
      • From My Computer to distribute software that is currently stored on your computer.
      • From Network Share to distribute software that is currently stored on a shared network drive.
    2. Use the Repository Item drop-down menu to select the correct snap executable for the customer you are deploying.
    3. In the Command Line Parameters field, type any command-line parameter -y for a silent install.
  8. Click the Targets tab and select the correct device targets for your installation.
  9. Click the Schedule tab and schedule the task to be run at the appropriate time.

You've successfully deployed to your customer's network. For the most up-to-date information, refer to SolarWind's Knowledge Base article here.
